So the trade deadline came and went today at 3pm. And what do you know, all the talk about loosing Marty Biron turned out to be true. But then again, if anyone knew anything about the situation we were in with the salary cap, then they should not have been surprised at all by this move. I honestly believe that Ty Conklin from Columbus will be able to do an excellent job filling in the back up job to Miller. I am also very excited that Miller has been given the sole goal tending job. This will give him a consistency over long stretches.
Jiri Novotny going to Washington. Also, OK with this one. Jiri has been a decent player, but hasn't made quite the impression here that he could have. And in exchange we pick up a nice young defender (Timo Helbling) who has allot of potential. Also, we received a well experienced forward (Dainius Zubrus) who doesn't have amazing stats, but can get things set up. but, the experience is one thing that our team can definitely afford to gain.
Also picking up Mikko Lehtonen from Nashville. Trying to rebuild Rochester now that we pulled almost all of our guys up from there!
Overall, I think Darcy did a good job filling in a few spots with players that will fit into our system. I heard some complaining that we didn't try to get a big name... WHEN HAVE WE EVER BEEN A BIG NAME TEAM?? never, that's when. we are a team that gets lots of great underrated players who form a tight knit group that can overcome any obstacles and win games by working hard and working together.

Welcome
Welcome All,
I have created this in the hope of being a means to share information regarding the Sabres and any dealings with the team.
I will try to update with new information as soon as I hear about it and have a few moments to come up with some comments of my own.
It is interesting that I should decide to start posting just after the big fiasco in between our beloved Sabres and Ottawa Senators. I'm sure by now everyone has had time to digest the situation and cone to their own conclusions. But the crux of the matter is it WAS a late and premeditated dirty hit. You will not hear me argue about an elbow or about a lose helmet strap, because both are irrelevant. I do believe that the injury was caused by hitting the ice, but why in the world would anyone argue about that? Is there anyone out there who would enjoy getting hit the head? Whether it is an elbow or a shoulder or a helmet… a hit to the head is going to cause some sort of damage.
For those who do not know, Tom Golisano (Sabres Owner) wrote a wonderful letter to Gary Bettman (NHL Commissioner) expressing concerns about the rule book and how there is currently nothing protecting a players head.
I also applaud all of the players who went out and stuck op for our Co-Captain. This proves to the word that we will not take crap from anybody, and that we will protect our players.
Finally, the $10,000 fine to Lindy Ruff for sending out our “fighters” is total and udder BS. Up until that fine was released I was under the impression that a coach can put whatever players out on the ice that he wants. So does this mean that I was wrong to be under this assumption?? Apparently so. The reason this fine infuriates me so much, is that we lost a star player for a number of games due to a dirty hit. And there is no fine for that. Out players fought their players to support Drury and that warrants a fine? Last time I checked, there are more players getting injured due to dirty hits than there are in simple fights. Can someone explain the justice? Please, I’m interested to hear the flimsy argument supporting that one.
